SKIMS and the Swoosh have been working their way through the Nike archive, and their latest pick is one of the oldest runners in it: the Waffle Racer, here in Baroque Brown. The silhouette belongs to the 1970s, built around the waffle-patterned rubber sole Bill Bowerman worked out for Oregon's runners, and it has spent the decades since as a low, lightweight lifestyle shoe.
This pair keeps everything in one brown register. A soft, slightly sheened nylon forms the body of the upper, with suede carrying the toe wrap, the mudguard and the heel in a dusty finish that reads older than it is. The Swoosh is cut from a near-black leather so dark it tips toward purple, matched by the heel tab and the laces, while the padded tongue stays brown. Underneath, a thin black midsole sits on a black waffle outsole with the square studs left proud.
The NikeSKIMS Waffle Racer in Baroque Brown is expected to release on November 10th at 15:00 UTC for $130 through Nike and select retailers, in women's sizes.
