Nike's Yardrunners series has spent the past few seasons putting HBCU colors on Air Max silhouettes, and this run hands the job to the Air Max 97 — here in Aggie blue and gold for North Carolina A&T. Christian Tresser's 1997 design, built around the full-length Air unit that changed what a running shoe could look like, has always suited a gradient, and this one uses it well.
The upper runs a ripstop base from varsity maize at the toe through sail and into sport royal at the heel, with the 97's wavy layers tracing the shift panel by panel. White leather wraps the toe and the waves, with a hit of blue leather above. A gold Swoosh sits on the sidewall, the tongue carries school detailing, and a royal pull loop finishes the heel. Underneath, the sail midsole holds a yellow Air window up front and a blue one at the heel, over a black and blue outsole.
The Nike Air Max 97 "North Carolina A&T" is expected to release on October 30th at 14:00 UTC for $190 in men's sizes through Nike and select retailers.
