Nike Air Max 97 "Coppin State University"

Nike's Yardrunners program has spent years putting HBCU pride on footwear, and for its latest round the Swoosh hands the Air Max 97 over to Coppin State University in Baltimore, drawing on the energy of marching band culture. The 97 itself arrived in 1997 from the hand of Christian Tresser, and its wavy panelling still suits a school's colours better than almost any other Nike runner.

Here those panels run deep royal blue, with a corduroy mudguard adding texture low on the upper and a navy band wrapping the collar and heel. White and yellow lines thread through the ripples, while yellow returns on the Swoosh, the lace loops and the branded pull tabs at the tongue and heel. Underneath, a white midsole carries a visible Air unit at the heel and yellow accents across the outsole.

The Nike Air Max 97 "Coppin State University" is expected to release on October 30th at 14:00 UTC for $190 in men's sizes through Nike and select retailers.
