Homecoming season gives Nike's Yardrunners program its moment, and the Swoosh has handed it to one of running's most recognisable shapes: the Air Max 97 in "Clark Atlanta University" red, silver and black, one of five HBCU colourways in the collection. Christian Tresser's 1997 design, with its wavy layered panelling and full-length visible Air, has rarely looked this collegiate.
The upper runs through graduated reds, from a deep burgundy at the toe into brighter crimson across the ribbed midfoot lines, with metallic silver stripes threaded between them. Black wraps the mudguard and the heel, framing a white Swoosh outlined in black at the sidewall, while black pull tabs sit at the tongue and heel and reflective silver picks out the lace area. Underneath, a white midsole carries the full-length Air window over a black outsole flecked with red.
The Nike Air Max 97 "Clark Atlanta University" is expected to release on October 30th at 14:00 UTC for $190 in men's sizes through Nike and select retailers.
